Monumental religious building designed by architect Albert van Huffel, engineer Paul Rome and sculptor Harry Elstrøm, in the Art Deco, Neo-Byzantine style.
Very controversial project since the laying of the first stone in 1905 by King Leopold II, construction began only in 1925. In 1935, a first choir was inaugurated but work continued until 1970.
The basilica has a rich collection of stained glass windows of all periods, a visit to the majestic interior spaces is recommended, as well as the panoramic terrace at the dome’s level which offers a spectacular view of Brussels and its surroundings.
