WINGED HORSE – Study for a Monument to Walt Whitman, c 1920
by John Bradley Storrs
The Monument to Walt Whitman that John Storrs proposed in 1920, although never cast in full size, was one of the greatest Art Deco sculptures of the 1920s. This large, beautifully-detailed example is considered “after Storrs,” and was cast in bronze at a later point, perhaps from the original mold or from one of the few examples that were cast by Storrs in his lifetime.
