High above the Chicago Board of Trade building in Chicago (1930) by Holabird & Root stands the iconic John Storrs sculpture of Ceres. In his efforts to make the sculpture more symbolic of the buildings purpose, Storrs turned to the classical subject of Ceres, the Roman goddess of grain alluding to the boards activity as the world’s biggest grain exchange. Holding a sheaf of wheat in one hand and a grain bag in the other. ⚡️
